“A place of Peace & Quiet”

Escarpment Cottages is located on the edge of the idyllic Rift Valley. Just a short drive from Nairobi and the International Airport, the Cottages are far enough away from the city to get away from the noise and business of the urban environment.

It is a place of peace and quiet, a place to enjoy the beauty and splendour of God’s creation, and a place to unplug and recharge.

— Joe Wagnell

— Kara Rupp

“Source of Life & Hope”

“We visited Escarpment Cottages at the end of a long dry season, in March of 2023.  The overview of the Great Rift Valley really helped us step away from the busy-ness of our personal schedules outside of Escarpment Cottages and see life from an elevated perspective.  Even in the extreme drought, we could sense the source of life and hope that God’s Spirit placed on that compound.”

— Rachel Frost & Jesse Newell

“God is going to use reCenter to encourage, guide, renew and restore missionaries”

Several months ago, we visited reCenter at Escarpment Cottages, and we were in awe of the beauty and tranquility of this place tucked away on the mountainside overlooking the great Rift Valley.

This week we saw pictures and were blown away by the progress that has been made. What was once a simple plot with a gorgeous view of Mount Longonot has been lovingly reshaped into a place of ministry. Now we more fully realize the vision that the Unruhs have for this place.

We have known and loved the Unruhs since our daughters attended pre-school together at RVA in 2009, and we could not be more excited about how God is going to use reCenter to encourage, guide, renew, and restore missionaries.

— Mike & Kim Saum

“Restful & Peaceful Retreat”

The Escarpment Cottages, are perched halfway down the Great Rift escarpment from the Nairobi-Nakuru road.  The quiet charm of the Kikuyu farmland pervades every aspect of the compound, and once the buildings are all completed, it could house parties of people or a few families.  The bracing air, coupled with the expansive vistas would allow this facility to be a restful and peaceful retreat.

I look forward to seeing how God, through the Unruh’s efforts, develops this compound to become an aid for those seeking solace and renewal from the rigours and challenges of day to day life.

— Erik & Rachel Ness

“An Ideal Place for Rest & Reflection”

We were so glad to reconnect with the Unruhs during a more recent trip to Kenya.  We were encouraged to hear about their ministry and the way God has miraculously provided for them.

They showed us the renovations and improvements they have completed and the dreams they have for the property.  They served us the best chai and a favourite treat of homemade mandazis (Kenyan donuts). From our experience, the Unruhs are incredibly welcoming, hospitable and patient.

The location of the Escarpment Cottages has spectacular, breathtaking views.  It is an ideal place for rest and reflection.  The whole family has worked at making this home for them and a retreat for others.
